OTHER MEDICATIONS

These can be used for seizures, mood, to help with sleep and nerve pain. They are usually taken with some form(s) of immune suppressant.

List of Other Medications

Ativan: (lorazepam) in a group of drugs called benzodiazepines. It helps with anxiety.

Abilify: (aripiprazole) is an antipsychotic medication such as schizophrenia and bi polar.

Adderall: Contains a combinations of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. These are central nervous system stimulants and commonly used to treat narcolepsy and ADHD.

Armour Thyroid: It is a desiccated or dried thyroid with a combination of hormones normally produced by the thyroid gland. Used to treat hypothyroidism.

CBD: Can be used to treat a variety of symptoms such as mood, nerve pain and other. For more info

Clonazepam: In a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. Helps to treat seizure or anxiety disorders.

Concerta: (methylphenidate) is a central nervous system stimulant. The extended release tablets are used to treat ADD or ADHD.

Cymbalta: (duloxetine) Used for major depressive disorder in adults and children ages 7 and over. Also used for fibromyalgia and diabetic neuropathy.

Cytomel: (liothyronone) is used to treat hypothyroidism. 

Depakote: (divaloproex sodium) is an anti seizure, also helps treat mood disorder such as bipolar, migraines and neuropathy pain.

Deplin: consists of a form of B vitamin or folate that occurs naturally in many foods. Folate helps produce red blood cells.

Diazepam: (Valium) 

Dilantin: (phenytoin) and anti seizure drug

Exelon: (rivastigmine) improves the function of nerve cells in the brain. It works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical that is important for the processes of memory, thinking and resoning. People with dementia usually have lower levels of this chemical. It is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's or Parkinson's.

Flexeril: (cyclobenzaprine) a muscle relaxant

Frova: (frovatriptan) a headache medicine that narrows blood vessels around the brain. It can also reduce substances in the body that can trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound and other migraine symptoms. It is used to treat headaches that have already begun, it does not prevent them.

Gabapentin: An anti-seizure that can help prevent certain kinds of seizure and nerve pain or restless leg syndrome. (Neurontin is one brand)

Haldol: (haloperidol) an antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia or to control motor and speech tics in people with Tourerre's syndrome.

Kenalog-40: Suspension fluid is a corticosteroid used as an anti inflammatory 

Keppra: An anti seizure medication for partial onset seizures from children 1 month old to adults. Also for tonic clonic seizures in adults and children from 6 years old. Can help with myoclonic seizures in adults and children 12 years and up.

Levothyroxin: Thyroid medication

Lexapro: (escitalopram) An SSRI (Seratonin uptake inhibitor). An antidepressant and anti anxiety for children from 12 years and adults.

 

Lithium: affects the flow of sodium through the nerves and muscles in the body. This affects excitation or mania. It is used to treat the manic episodes of bipolar or manic depression.

Lorazepam: (Ativan)

Lyrica: (pregabalin) An anti seizure, slows impulses in brain causing seizures and affects chemicals in brain that cause pain. Treats seizures and nerve pain.

Meclizine: An antihistimine used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting and dizziness or symptoms of vertigo.

Methotrexate: Interferes with the growth of certain cells that reproduce quickly in the body especially cancer cells, skin cells and bone marrow cells. It is usually given after other medications are not successful in treating symptoms.

Morphine: An opioid pain medication used to treat moderate to severe pain. Short acting formulas are for taken as needed pain and extended release is for round the clock pain. 

Nortriptiline: A tricyclic antidepressant.

 

Omeprazole: (Prilosec, Zegrid) These are proton pump inhibitors that decrease the acid produced in the stomach. It is used to treat GERD (gastroesophogeal reflux) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid. Can be taken with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcers caused by H. Pylori.

Paracetamol: (acetaminophen) It is a pain reliever and fever reducer. It is used to treat headach, muscle ache, arthritis, and other mild inflammation.

Paxil: (paroxitine) an SSRI (seratonin reuptake inhibitor) Treats depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), PTSD

Percocet: Combination of acetaminaphen and oxycodone (an opiod). Used to treat moderate to severe pain.

Phenytoin: Anti seizure. Does not treat all types of seizures.

Pramipexole: Similare effects of dopamine which is produced in the body. Low levels of dopamine are associated with Parkinson's disease. Used to treat stiffness, muscle spasms, poor muscle control and restless legs syndrome (RLS).

Prednisone: Corticosteroid, prevents release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Used as anti inflammatory or immune suppressant.

Prevacid: (Lansoprazole) A proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid in the stomach.

Primidone: Anti seizure

Prochlorperazine: Part of a group of drugs called phenothiazines. An anti psychotic that treats schizopherenia, anxiety, severe nausea and vomiting.

Profigil: (Modafinil) Medication that promotes wakefulness thereby treating excessive sleepiness, narcolepsy and shift work sleep disorder.

Quediapine: Treats schizophrenia in children from 13 to adults, bipolar in children 10 to adults and major deppressive disorder in adults.

Ramipril: (Altace) An ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) Treats high blood pressure (hypertension), congestive heart failure or to improve survival after a heart attack.

Risperdol: (risperidone) Anti psychotic that treats schizophrenia, bipolar and irritability in children with autism.

Ritalin: (methylphenedate) A central nervous system stimulant. Helps treat ADD, ADHD and narcolepsy.

Rituxan: (Rituximab) A cancer medication that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Also treats severe autoimmune disorders.

Rozerem: (Ramelteon) Non habit forming sedative or hypnotic. Helps regulate the "sleep-wake cycle." Used to treat insomnia associated with having trouble falling asleep.

Saphris: (Asenapine) An anti psychotic that treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Children 10-17 and adults.

Seroquil: (Quetiapine) An anti psychotic that treats schizophrenia in children from 13 and adults, bipolar in children from 10 and adultsl, and major depressive disorder in adults.

Solu-Medrol: A glucocorticoid an anti inflammatory. Contains methylprednisolone sodium succinate (a corticosteroid). It is also an immune suppressant. Taken by injection when a quick response is needed in patients with severe conditions.

Tecta: (Pantoprezole magnesium) A proton pump inhibitor where a reduction in stomach acid is needed. Treats GERD and with antibiotics can treat duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori.

Tegretol: (Carbamazepime) An anti seizure that treats partial and tonic clonic. Also treats nerve pain such as trigeminal neuralgia and glossalpharangeal neuralgia.

Tizanidine: Short acting muscle relaxer that blocks nerve impulses to brain. Helps muscle spasms.

Topomax: (Topirimate) Seizure medicine that treats children from 2 years to adults. Helps as a preventative to migraines but not after aquiring one that has begun- in children 12 to adults. 

Totodol: (Ketoroloc) an NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory) Used 5 days or less to treat moderate to severe pain.

Tramadol: Narcotic-like pain reliever that treats moderate to severe pain in an extended release form for around the clock pain.

Versed: (Midazolam) A benzodiazepine used to sedate a person getting minor surgery.

Vistaril: (hydroxizine) Reduces activity in the central nervous system to help calm anxiety and tension and also has an antihistimine for allergic reactions. Also can help control nausea and vomitting.

Wellbutrin: (Bupropion) An antidepressant which treats major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

Xanax: (Alprazolam) Helps with anxiety

Zoloft: (Sertraline) An SSRI (selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor) Helps treat depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD

Zonegran: (Zonisimide) Sulfa drug with anti seizure effects. Used with other anti seizure medications to treat partial seizures and adults with epilepsy.​
